Community Engagement

Let's Talk about City Council!

A City Council Review Committee has been formed to review the current composition of City Council and the ward system.

The Library hosted two sessions for the Committee and we are actively seeking participants from the Indigenous community to attend a sharing circle on the same topic.

  • The Indigenous Sharing Circle will take place on Saturday, April 13 - registration is required (you must be Indigenous to attend this event).

Register at the link below:

Saturday, April 13 - 11 am - Brodie Library, Main Floor

If you are interested in participating, please fill out the registration form online.  Staff at any location can also help you get registered or you can call 807-345-8275 and register by phone.

There are limited spots available and your seat at the event will be confirmed by email or phone.

If you don't have a phone number or email address, please contact Tina Maronese in person at the Waverley Library - or talk to any staff member at any Library who can connect you with Tina.

Lunch and an honorarium will be provided to all confirmed participants. Please note that smudging will take place at this event.

These questions will be discussed at the event in small groups:

  • What are the advantages / disadvantages of ward based representation?
  • What are the advantages / disadvantages of at-large based representation?
  • Should City Councillor be considered a part time or full time position?
  • How many members of Council should there be in total? How should they be allocated between at-large/ward/Mayor?

These engagement events are presented in partnership with the City of Thunder Bay / City Council Composition Committee.

Thank YOU!
