Early Literacy Programs

These sessions will help children learn to love stories and get ready for reading. Parents will also learn about authors and titles and how they can help their child get ready for learning and school. For information about program dates and times, please visit our online calendar.

 

Read, Sing, Play!

Children and their family or caregivers will enjoy this 100% literacy based drop-in storytime combining stories, songs, and rhymes with activities and time for play! Just drop in! Offered at Brodie, County Park, and Waverely branches.

 

Baby Time

A drop-in, literacy based storytime for babies up to 24 months. Your baby will learn through stories, songs, lap rhymes and play. Siblings are welcome. Offered at Brodie, County Park, and Waverely branches.

 

Tales for Twos

Singing, stories, activities, and rhymes for two year olds and their caregivers. Registration begins two weeks before program date by phone, in person, or online. Winter 2019 program registration opens December 31 @ 10:00am (Mary JL Black location) and January 2 @ 10:00am (Waverley).

 

Preschool Storytime

A school readiness program for children ages 3 and 4 to attend on their own while caregivers remain nearby in the Library. Parental participation is required for the activity portion of the program. Registration begins two weeks before program date by phone, in person, or online. Winter 2019 program registration opens January 2 @ 10:00am for the Mary JL Black and Waverley programs.

Google CS First Club! January 19 -March 9 at Brodie Library

No prior coding experience required. Class will introduce students to computer science and the programming language Scratch. Student will learn to create computer art/character, interactive stories, games, and animations. Additionally, computer science concepts used in Scratch can be applied to other advanced programming languages, like Python or Java. Registration opens January 5 @ 10am by phone, in person, or online; for ages 10-14.

 

Build and Play @ Mary J - any time!

Families are invited to come and play with our creative engineering and building toys! Mastermind a massive marble maze, build an adventure with Goldie Blox, or snap together Magna Tiles. Toys are suitable for children ages 4+ and are available whenever the Library is open.

 

Family Lego Drop In! Saturdays from 11-4pm at Brodie Library

Play, build, and create! Kids of all ages and their caregivers are invited to drop in for imaginative play. Materials provided.

 

STEM Activity at County Park

Challenge yourself and see what you can create this March Break! Registration begins February 27; for ages 5 - 12 years

 

Science North

Feel the Rush!

Seeking adventure and thrill? Unleash your inner athlete and get your adrenaline pumping with our extreme sports exhibit! Understand the physics of a 360, flip, learn about sports injuries, and train like a professional competitor. Just drop in!

 

Mighty Machines!

March 12 @ 10:30 at Brodie Library and March 13 @ 2:00pm at Waverley Library

This interactive, hands-on exhibit will engage guests of all ages. Join Science North for an exciting interactive science experience led by Science North’s popular Bluecoat scientists! Just drop in!
