YOUth Review: Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano

In a small, working-class Chicago neighborhood, the bright, chaotic Padavano family encounter William, who’s welcomed warmly. William finally feels like he’s found a place to call home, while suddenly his troubles start to rise from a difficult past.

Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano is a drama and historical fiction that presents family ups and downs, effects from a neglectful childhood, and connection through tragedy, told through different perspectives.

Julia, Sylvie, Cecelia, and Emeline are sisters that have a tight bond since growing up, now facing real life complications together, trying to keep the Padavano family afloat. Once Julia meets William and he is introduced to her sisters, they begin their romantic journey together. Except after living together, William’s secret trauma can’t be kept in
the dark anymore as he starts to go back to his tragic past of feeling lost, and longing for real love where he just can’t find it. This features the beginning of a long road of challenges up ahead, conflicts between sisters, and feelings that can’t be said soon enough.

With a story line filled with inspiration and the ones around us, Hello Beautiful is a delightful recreation of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women, applying key detail to the meaning from the original story. This novel is very engaging, conveying a message of hope and perseverance through times of struggle. The experiences that the characters encounter bring out thoughtful emotions that can resonate with any reader.
