Vivarium, directed by Lorcan Finnegan, is a horror movie about a couple, Gemma and Tom, who want to move and buy a new house. The two go to a store to buy a home and are greeted by an odd man, who takes them to where they will be living. When the man leaves them, they find themselves stuck in an endless suburban neighborhood. They mysteriously receive a child to care for, and they struggle to do so because the child has a strange way of speaking and growing. The movie also explores the couple's relationship as they try to survive and escape the endless place where they live.
The plot and story are seriously enjoyable. The way the movie is shot is amazing; it kept me captivated while leaving me in suspense because of the way it is framed. Its soundtrack is also great; it had me hitting a little jig whenever a song was played.
During the last half of the movie, everything started to make more sense to me—the ending ties it all together, while at the start, you have to try to make sense of it. I personally loved the characters and how they all clashed—their own goals driving them in different directions while also driving the conflict of the movie. The whole movie was great, I really loved the end, and the end credits song too. So, of course, I have to recommend it to anyone who enjoys trippy movies that really make you think.
