Master Facilities Plan

Building for the Future

Over 2,000 people responded to the Facilities Survey we conducted in May 2023, and the majority supported the creation of a new central Library.  Analysis showed that, on average, citizens are willing to pay $39.90 per year on top of their regular taxes to fund a new vision for the Library.

Our vision of four neighbourhood branches and a new central branch would cost the City an additional 0.4%, meaning an increase of approximately $30 more annually for the average taxpayer.  This scenario would allow us to increase our operating hours by 35%, including significantly more evening and weekend hours, and would offer the community 80% more Library space.

The renderings below are full of possibilities for a new, central library location as part of a Library system which will also feature neighbourhood Library locations. These were shared at the consultation events, and in the Library's presentation at the events.
