Thunder Bay has a thriving and eclectic community of writers. You probably know about Sheila Burnford, author of The Incredible Journey, but did you know she was a Thunder Bay native? Picture books, historical tomes, science fiction novels, short story collections... there are local writers working and being published in every genre.

Several writers and would-be-writers also meet regularly at the Library for support and  inspiration. Check here for information about local writing groups. Also check Literary Thunder Bay - a blog devoted to local writing and reading - http://literarythunderbay.blogspot.com.

The library maintains in its special collection works by local authors/personalities.  These people are defined as "persons who published a work while a resident of Thunder Bay or Northwestern Ontario; or local perons who now reside elsewhere but have achieved fame (ie. Paul Shaffer, Arthur Black).”  Works include written as well as recorded.
